Sign in to Interlibrary Loan Services   |   Need help?

Interlibrary Loan is open to all EKU faculty, staff, and students. The purpose is to obtain materials which are not available in the Libraries collections for the educational, research, and general needs of the University community. The service is free for all eligible users. The EKU Libraries Interlibrary Loan system enables you to place, track, and keep a history of ILL requests from a personal online account. All transactions, including renewals, are done online.

Interlibrary Loan policies are based on the American Library Association Interlibrary Loan Code and governed by U.S. copyright law (Title 17, United States Code). Using these guidelines the following will not be requested:

  • Materials for Reserve
  • Textbooks currently being used at EKU
  • Feature films (video or DVD) or non-instructional television programs
  • Recorded music

Loans and Renewals

Loans are usually for at least two weeks with the option of one renewal. For a renewal, advance notice of at least two days is necessary. Renewals may be made online or by phone; however, the lending institution may not routinely grant the request.

To Renew Items Online via ILLiad

  1. Sign in to your ILL account
  2. Select an item to renew by clicking on the transaction number.
  3. Click the Request Renewal button. You may request only one renewal per item. If the lending library doesn't agree to the request, ILL will notify you via email to return the item. Note that some libraries loan materials with the condition of no renewals.

Distance and Online Students

  • Electronic resources, book chapters and articles will be delivered, regardless of patron location, to ILL accounts or personal email addresses.
  • Online students outside the EKU service region should select "Outside Service Region" as the pickup location when setting up their ILL account.
  • Books may be delivered via courier to Regional campuses for pickup. Online students who are local to an EKU regional campus or center may have ILL items couriered to their respective centers.
  • Online students located outside the EKU service area should use their local public library to place book requests, as EKU libraries cannot deliver books owned by other institutions.

Copyright Restrictions

The copyright law of the United States (Title 17, United States Code) governs the making of photocopies or other reproductions of copyrighted materials.

Under certain conditions specified in the law, libraries and archives are authorized to furnish a photocopy or other reproduction. One of these specified conditions is that the photocopy or reproduction is not to be "used for any purpose other than private study, scholarship, or research." If a user makes a request in excess of "fair use" that user may be liable for copyright infringement.

This institution reserves the right to refuse to accept a copying order, if in its judgment, fulfillment of the order would involve violation of copyright law.
